Brussels, 1st September 2022 - SPIE Belgium, the Belgian subsidiary of the SPIE group, the independent European leader in multi-technical services in the area of energy and communications, recently won a tender from the Agency for Roads and Traffic (AWV – Agentschap Wegen & Verkeer) to supply and install four CADO® emergency gates (which enable the crash barrier to be raised in the event of an emergency) in the Quatre Bras tunnel in Brussels.
If there is an emergency on the motorway, it is absolutely vital that ambulances, police cars and fire engines can arrive at the scene of an accident in good time. However, traffic jams sometimes make this very difficult. The CADO® (Calamiteitendoorsteek, or emergency access gate) is a solution to this problem. It allows for part of the central berm’s crash barrier to be raised in the event of an emergency to allow emergency vehicles through.
SPIE Belgium recently won a tender from the AWV to supply and install four 9-metre CADO® emergency gates in the Quatre Bras tunnel on the Brussels ring road (R0) - two on each side of the tunnel. This project, which is due for completion in the first quarter of 2023, will see SPIE Belgium work closely with SPIE Nederland, which will be responsible for manufacturing, supplying and installing the CADOs®.
Roger Flamand, International Account Manager at SPIE Nederland B.V. Smart city Wijhe: “We are glad to be given the opportunity, thanks to our Belgian colleagues, to supply and install these CADOs® in Brussels and we expect this collaborative venture to be the start of a long and prosperous journey. We are certain that this innovative product will soon be able to solve other traffic problems on Belgium’s motorways and we are more than willing to share our knowledge and expertise with SPIE Belgium.”
Luc Blockx, Business Development Manager at SPIE Belgium: “CADO® is one of our Dutch colleagues’ innovative solutions for controlling traffic. It fully meets current requirements in terms of safety and deployment speed should emergencies occur or maintenance be required. Through this partnership, we are hoping to play our part in improving road user safety here in Belgium.”
