Sensors for parking spaces

Client Ville de Mons et de Liège

SPIE, Communithings and Orange, partners for urban mobility

On the wake of the success story of Mons, where SPIE installed sensors for 110 parking spaces to relieve traffic in the city centre, SPIE Belgium equipped 223 parking spaces with sensors in 19 streets in the centre of Liège. Always in partnership with Communithings and the mobile telephony operator Orange, SPIE Belgium proposed a solution based on sensors built in the surfacing of each parking space. Fitted with a battery with 5 to 7 years of autonomy, they detect the presence of a vehicle on the parking space and transmit the data to a central system via the NB-IoT network of Orange. The parking operators thus receive data that enable them to  verify compliance with the parking times and with parking spaces for people with disabilities. These spaces enable drivers to park free of charge for 30 minutes, the aim being to increase the availability of parking spaces by promoting a rapid rotation of vehicles.

This project confirms not only the expertise of SPIE Belgium in the Internet of Things, but also the excellent value for money of our services. SPIE Belgium contributes to the smart city of tomorrow by streamlining parking in town, improving air quality and promoting local businesses.
